Valentine Day is celebrated in many parts of the country in their own way. Here in this article we will be sharing about how valentine day is celebrated in different countries of the world. Every country have their own tradition of celebrating this day but the aim is one and the same i.e to spread love and affection between the people.
Valentine Day in Different Countries
China :- In China there is tradition where man gives chocolate, flowers or both to the woman that he loves. It is also known as Chinese Valentine Day. The day is not celebrated on 14th February rather the people celebrate Valentine Day or Chinese Valentine Day on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. Chinese New Year falls in the month of January or in February that’s why they don’t celebrate this day on 14th February
Finland and Estonia :- People here have a tradition where they remember all their friends. It is a day dedicated to Friends and is well known as “Friends Day”.
Iran :- Iran people have a tradition of expressing love and affection towards their mother and wives on this day.
Israel :- Israel people celebrate this day on 15th day of the month of Av which usually falls in late August. Here the tradition is that girls wear white dresses and dance in the vineyards, and boys would be waiting for them.
Japan :- Japan introduced the holiday for the first time in 1936, when it ran an advertisement aimed at foreigners. Here the custom is that only women give chocolates to men. And men are expected to return gifts that are at least two or three times more valuable than the gift they received in Valentine’s Day.
Latin America :- Valentine Day is known as Day of Love and Friendship in Latin America. They did not celebrate this day on 14th February because it usually falls too little before or too little after the Brazilian Carnival. Here the tradition is many single women perform popular rituals in order to find a good husband or boyfriend. Couples exchange gifts, chocolates, flowers and greeting cards.
Philippines :- Valentine’s Day in Philippines is celebrated in the same manner as in the West. On Valentine Day there is step increase in price of flowers, particularly red roses.
South Korea :- In South Korea people have their own tradition or custom to celebrate this day. On February 14 women give chocolate to men, and men have to give non-chocolate candy to women on March 14 which is also popularly known as White Day. On Black Day i.e on 14th April those who did not receive anyone on 14 February or March eat black noodles.
